National Windscreens calendar to provide symptom cards
Approximately 18,000 desk and wall calendars with associated symptom cards have been delivered to the Midlands and Southern England regions of the U.K.
“Meningitis Research Foundation has been one of our chosen charities for 22 years and we have helped to raise more than [$16,933] so far toward research into this deadly disease,” Martyn Bennett regional marketing director for National Windscreens, said. “We are featuring the symptom card again this year as part of our campaign to raise awareness of the disease and the vital work undertaken by Meningitis Research Foundation."
The announcement states that approximately 3,400 people in the U.K. and Ireland are affected by both diseases annually. The symptom cards list signs that indicate likely meningitis or septicaemia cases.
The Meningitis Research Foundation states that the disease can often be mistaken for milder diseases like the flu, but it can become severe within a matter of hours with approximately one-third of survivors experience post-infection problems that can include blindness or brain damage.
“We hope that the distribution of the symptom card will assist with early diagnosis of the disease and encourage people to seek medical help quickly and in turn help to save lives,” Bennett said.
