Dr. In-Kyu Yoon named director of Dengue Vaccine Initiative
"We greatly look forward to Dr. Yoon’s leadership of DVI," Dr. Jerome Kim, the International Vaccine Institute’s director-general, said. "Dr. Yoon’s extensive research experience and knowledge of dengue and vaccine clinical trials will further strengthen DVI’s management and operations. His experience will be welcomed by the International Vaccine Institute as he can also provide additional scientific leadership at the Institute."
Dr. Yoon previously served as chief of the department of virology at Armed Forces Research Institute Medical Sciences located in Bangkok, Thailand.
"DVI and its predecessor, PDVI, have provided leadership and continuity in dengue vaccine research over many years," Joachim Hombach, DVI member and coordinator of the Initiative for Vaccine Research at the World Health Organization, said. "We are very happy to welcome the new leadership in these very important and exciting times, as a first dengue vaccine is being reviewed for registration. Dr. Yoon is an accomplished dengue researcher and clinical practitioner and we look forward to working with him."
He will assume his new responsibilities in Aug. 2015.
"I’m excited to lead the Dengue Vaccine Initiative during this critical period in the development and implementation of dengue vaccines,” Yoon said. “DVI and PDVI have played a crucial role over the past 12 years in advancing the field of dengue vaccines. As we move forward, DVI will continue to work diligently to promote measures to prevent and control this global problem.”
