Carole Presern named head of new Global Fund office
Presern is a highly experienced leader in global health and development, according to a Global Fund press release.
The new chief of the office previously served as executive director of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health. Presern was originally trained as a midwife and anthropologist and earned a doctorate in public health policy.
The doctor also served as the managing director for special projects at the GAVI Alliance and worked for many years in the United Kingdom's Department for International Development as a senior advisor for Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique.
Presern, a U.K. native, has also worked in countries including Nepal, Pakistan, Zimbabwe and Cambodia.
Presern also served as a member of the Board of the Global Fund for five years.
The head of the Office of Board Affairs is a newly created position. Presern will expand strategic reinforcement and overall support of the work done by the Global Fund and its core areas of responsibility. The new head will also advise the Board chair and vice chair and serve as the secretary of the Board's Coordinating Group.
