Global Fund Board meeting to establish new funding model

The Board of the Global Fund is expected to make a decision at a meeting this month regarding how the philanthropic organization will conduct its fundraising campaigns moving forward.

"This meeting will chart our future," Indonesian Minister of Health and Chair of the Board of the Global Fund Dr. Nafsiah Mboi said. "Indonesia is extremely proud to be able to play a part in this collective effort. The Global Fund is working with all partners to galvanize support for the most effective ways to defeat AIDS, TB and malaria."

The meeting is expected to cover the Global Fund's financial operations and strategies. It is also expected to analyze funding processes to create a new model that is more effective in accomplishing the goals of the organization, which include fighting AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

"We can defeat these diseases by making more strategic decisions with increased impact," Global Fund Executive Director Dr. Mark Dybul said. "The new funding model gives all of us a fuller manifestation of partnership, which is the core of our organization."

The Board Members are expected to vote on a new funding model, which is likely to include larger investments in countries and areas that most require aid. An official decision on the funding policies, which will be in effect for the 2014-2016 period, is expected to be made this month.
