Novation announced on Dec. 23 that it has adjusted resources and supplier agreements to support the latest statistics from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, which indicate cases of influenza are increasing in the United States.
"Novation is committed to providing hospital organizations with the supply chain resources they need to prepare for the impact of seasonal influenza," John Thompson, the vice president of Medical, Surgical and Distribution at Novation, said. "We continuously collaborate with our suppliers to provide education and resources for health care providers to help plan and implement best practices, especially in the event of a major flu outbreak. Influenza preparation and prevention is a component of our broader efforts regarding infection prevention."
By working with a broad range of suppliers, the company is able to assist supply chain professionals in planning and purchasing adequate supplies to protect against the spread of influenza.
The CDC said that flu-associated deaths in the United States have ranged from 3,000 to 49,000 people over a period of 30 years. The CDC estimated 138 million to 145 million doses of influenza vaccine will be produced this year.
Novation has contracts to provide all brands and applications of the vaccine, including pediatric and inhaled forms.
