Vivione Biosciences collaborates on food-borne pathogens detection

Vivione Biosciences, Inc., a Calgary, Alberta-based company, announced a new collaboration on Tuesday with Kirkegaard & Perry Laboratories, Inc., to accelerate the commercialization of Vivione's food-borne pathogen detection platform.

Vivione's RAPID-B platform detection kit will include KPL's BacTrace affinity-purified primary antibodies. The platform uses flow cytometry combined with specific, proprietary reagents to provide food pathogen detection down to a single cell in seven hours. Most culture-based methods take up to 48 hours for detection.

"Vivione collaborated with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's National Center for Toxicological Research over the past six years to accomplish the development and testing of the RAPID-B system," Kevin Kuykendall, the CEO of Vivione, said. "The strategic relationship with KPL enables us to immediately expand our product offerings and get to market much faster by leveraging their leadership expertise in antibody-based reagent production."

KPL develops antibodies for listeria, campylobacter, salmonella and food-borne pathogen detection. As part of the collaboration, Vivione will be able to leverage KPL's continuous stream of new products in development to detect emerging food-borne pathogens and infectious disease.

Vivione's business centers on commercializing the RAPID-B system, which consists of hardware, software and chemical reagents developed to test bacteria in certain environments.
