GlaxoSmithKline publishes vaccine trial data

GlaxoSmithKline published on Thursday patient-level data from recent vaccine trials.

The published data reviews 211 interventional studies that GSK has been doing since 2007. The vaccine trials covered by the data include measles, mumps, rubella and varicella vaccines, Priorix Tetra, FierceVaccines reports.

The release of this information comes after the director general of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations said the industry has some concerns about transparency.

"We are taking this step because it is the right thing to do, both scientifically and for society, and it is in line with our company's commitment to transparency in clinical trial reporting," Dr. Perry Nisen and Dr. Frank Rockhold, GSK's senior vice presidents, said, according to FierceVaccines.

GSK also released other data relating to its trials from vaccines against H1N1, H5N1, rotavirus and season influenza. Researchers are able to access any of this data after they submit a proposal to GSK.

GKS is looking for feedback on the data it has released. GSK also has plans to add more data from trials, potentially doubling the database by the end of the year. The goal is to add all the data from interventional studies run since 2000, FierceVaccines reports.
