ECDC launches new resources to support healthcare

The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control launched a new complement of resources on Tuesday to support public health professionals and front line healthcare workers working on routine vaccination programs.

The new resources include a vaccine scheduler, a measles atlas, a Twitter chat on meningitis and a pool of practical resources called, "Let's talk about protection." The ECDC launched the resources to coincide with European Immunization Week, which runs from April 20 through April 27.

The vaccine scheduler is a new platform of vaccination schedules for specific age groups and individual European countries developed in collaboration with the Groupe d'Etudes en Preventologie. Healthcare professionals can filter information by disease, country and specific age groups and compare vaccine schedules between two countries. Users can save the information as an Excel file for future use.

The measles atlas is an interactive atlas based on surveillance data that allows for visualization of the progress towards measles elimination in each European country. The atlas covers the time period between 2006 and 2012 with four series of data maps for vaccination coverage, incidence rates and age groups.

The Twitter chat on meningitis is co-hosted by the ECDC and the Confederation of Meningitis Organization. The chat is scheduled for Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Central European Summer Time.

The "Let's talk about protection" resources include examples of letters to parents, a vaccine policy statement and questions and answers to use with parents in relation to vaccinating children against harmful diseases.
