Indiana reports second TB exposure site
Last week, officials discovered that an employee at OP Nail Salon and Spa at 423 East Center Rd. contracted the active, contagious form of tuberculosis. On Monday, the Kokomo Tribune confirmed that the infected woman also went to the Center Road Laundromat on 421 East Center Rd., Fox 43 Pennsylvania reports.
As a result of the two TB exposure sites, hundreds of Hoosiers may have been exposed to the infectious disease. Health officials are looking to find people who visited the laundry business between November 1 and February 22.
Health officials offered a free clinic on Tuesday from noon until 6 p.m. at the Community CareMobile Unit. The unit was parked on LaFountain Street at the Howard Regional Health System parking lot. Those who are tested for TB must return to the testing facility 72 hours later to have the test results read, according to Fox 43 Pennsylvania.
TB is a highly contagious bacterial infection that can be transmitted by breathing in air droplets from a sneeze or cough of someone who is infected. Those most at risk for contracting TB are infants, the elderly and people with weak immune systems. TB symptoms include excessive sweating, coughing up blood, fatigue and fever along with breathing difficulty, wheezing and chest pain.
