ROCKVILLE, Md. — Emergent BioSolutions Inc. announced Jan. 11 that its chief financial officer and senior vice president of finance and administration has joined the board of directors of the MdBio Foundation, a charitable and educational organization focused on supporting the state of Maryland’s bioscience community.
"It is my belief that the biopharmaceutical industry has the greatest potential to change and improve the quality of human life,” said R. Don Elsey, who joined Emergent BioSolutions in 2005 and has served as chief financial officer since 2006.
MdBio Foundation is a subsidiary of the Tech Council of Maryland.
For 18 years, MdBio has been supporting the state’s bioscience community through business development, advisory services, industry databases, industry reports and financial rewards. MdBio also provides an array of educational and workforce development programs, including speaker series, scholarships at Montgomery College, post-doctoral conference and career expo, the BioGENEius science competition and summer science camps, including Governor’s Academy on Biology and Young Explorers Program.
In addition, it operates the MdBioLab, a mobile bioscience laboratory that visits high schools throughout the state.
