Alterra has joined the United Nations Foundation "Nothing But Nets" to fight against malaria by raising $105,359 in donations over the course of approximately one year.

More than one million people die each year because of malaria, which is transmitted through the bites of mosquitoes infected with the disease.

Since 2009, Alterra Founder and CEO David Royce has supported the nonprofit Nothing But Nets. Royce makes efforts to rally his employees to support the program, and in 2014 he and his company raised $31,327 for the program.

"As a pest control company, we increase the quality of our customers lives by eliminating unwanted invaders,” Royce said. “However, in many underdeveloped countries, pests can be a life or death matter. We are proud to support Nothing But Nets and are so grateful to Alterra's team members for helping protect refugees in need."

Alterra involved 1,250 employees last week to fight malaria with a weeklong campaign. The team heightened malaria awareness by posting flyers at various locations. They used the company’s Facebook page to give further information about the ways employees can help refugee families in sub-Saharan Africa.

"We are so grateful to work with such a passionate partner like Alterra -- their leadership and generosity is inspiring,” Nothing But Nets Senior Campaign Associate Kavita Sood said. “We truly value their support and their contributions have helped protect over 20,000 women, children and families from malaria."
