Latest Indiana HIV outbreak report: 163 confirmed cases

The latest report from Indiana state health officials on the HIV outbreak provides a current total of 163 confirmed HIV cases in southeastern Indiana, plus three more cases with positive preliminary test results.

Health care workers are providing services in the Austin Community Outreach Center, 2277 W Frontage Road, Austin, Indiana. The center’s schedule is changing starting Monday, when the new hours will be Tuesday-Thursday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., closed Friday-Monday.

The center has been useful as southeastern Indiana deals with the outbreak. The total number of visitors to the center now stands at 960, with 1,587 services at the center having been utilized.

If individuals need assistance outside of center hours, they should contact the HIV testing and/or information department of the Scott County Health Department, the Indiana State Department of Health HIV Hotline, 866-588-4948; Urgent Medical Services at Scott County Memorial Hospital, 812-752-3456; or Mental Health & Addiction Services at LifeSpring Health Systems, 812-752-2837.

Grace Covenant Church has agreed to provide shuttle services. Individuals who require the shuttle service need to contact the Community Outreach Center in Austin for more information.

The ISDH One-Stop Shop can provide care coordination; HIV testing; vaccinations for tetanus and Hepatitis A and B; and substance-abuse referrals. There are also birth certificates, state-issued ID cards, local training for employment, job counseling, HIV testing, HIV car coordination, HIP 2.0 insurance enrollment, and substance abuse referrals available.
