Health professionals recently released the latest update concerning the HIV outbreak in southeastern Indiana.

Experts report that there are 155 HIV cases in southeastern Indiana; 154 of these cases have been confirmed, and one case tested preliminary positive.

Support is being offered at the Austin Community Outreach Center, located at 2277 West Frontage Road in Austin, Indiana. Grace Covenant Church has offered a free shuttle service for HIV patients who need transportation to or from the center. Please call 317-617-2223 to request assistance.

The center has collaborated with state agencies, local partners and other community leaders to open a one-stop shop. This shop offers a multitude of services, including job counseling, birth certificates, state-issued ID cards, HIV testing, HIV care coordination, HIP 2.0 insurance enrollment, substance abuse referrals and vaccines for Hepatitis A and B as well as tetanus.

The community center has served an estimated 685 individuals. Of that number, 273 people enrolled in HIP 2.0 insurance, 247 people received HIV testing, 247 received immunizations and 176 accessed vital records at the department of health. Furthermore, 98 people accessed the bureau of motor vehicles, 72 received LifeSpring mental health services and 71 received HIV car coordination. A total of 34 people received job referrals through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
