Actor James Van Der Beek partners with AstraZeneca on flu awareness campaign

AstraZeneca announced on Monday that it collaborated with actor James Van Der Beek on a campaign to dispel myths about the flu and highlight the importance of vaccination.

Van Der Beek starred in an informational video called Just the Flu Facts as part of the campaign. The video seeks to debunk common misconceptions about influenza, including that the flu vaccine can result in patients contracting the disease.

"As health-conscious as I am, I was surprised to learn that even I had been subscribing to many commonly-held beliefs about the flu that are actually myths," Van Der Beek said. "Because influenza can have a serious impact on the entire family, I felt it was important to help people separate flu fact from fiction."

Van Der Beek also highlighted AstraZeneca's FluMist Quadrivalent vaccine, which is administered as a nasal spray. The vaccine, which is approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration, protects against four strains of the flu.

"Together with our doctor, my wife and I decided that FluMist Quadrivalent was the right choice for us," Van Der Beek said. "I encourage all individuals and parents to talk to their healthcare provider about which flu vaccine is right for themselves and their family."
