Hong Kong's CHP monitoring four additional avian flu cases in China
Health authorities from China reported the four new cases to the CHP on Sunday, which included cases in Anhui, Zhejiang, Zhaoqing and Shenzhen. The patients in Anhui, Zhejiang and Zhaoqing were hospitalized as of Sunday. The Shenzhen case occurred in an 81-year-old woman who died on Friday.
The four new cases brings the total number of cases of avian influenza A H7N9 up to 324 in China, including 128 cases in Zhejiang.
Hong Kong's CHP is educating travelers about the disease by distributing pamphlets, displaying posters in departure and arrival halls, making in-flight public announcements, conducting environmental health inspections and providing regular updates to the travel industry through correspondence and meetings.
"In view of human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) confirmed in Hong Kong and multiple cases notified by the Mainland, the activity of the virus is expected to be higher in the winter season," a spokesperson for the DH, said. "Those planning to travel outside Hong Kong should maintain good personal, environmental and food hygiene at all times."
