Sabin Foundation Europe appoints new board member

Sabin Foundation Europe, a U.K. registered charity supporting vaccine research and development, announced the election on Monday of James Beery to the charity's board of trustees.

Beery is the senior of counsel at Covington & Burling, a business and corporate law firm. He previously served as the senior vice president and general counsel of GlaxoSmithKline plc in London and as a non-executive director on multiple corporate boards for European and U.S. life sciences companies.

"I am excited to join Sabin Foundation Europe and collaborate with key public and private partners to raise the profile of diseases crippling the world's poorest people," Beery said. "There is an urgent need to produce and deliver life-saving interventions, but it cannot be accomplished by one industry alone. Sabin Foundation Europe's strong network of pharmaceutical, corporate, government, academic and non-profit advocates is a tremendous asset in the global effort to empower people worldwide through good health."

Sabin Foundation Europe is a partner of the U.S.-based Sabin Vaccine Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing suffering from vaccine-preventable and neglected tropical diseases. Sabin Foundation Europe leads U.K. and European efforts to promote proven, cost-effective solutions to the most pervasive and least understood health issues throughout the world.

"Mr. Beery has expertise in navigating the complex issues facing the life sciences industry," Morton Hyman, the chairman of the board of trustees, said. "His understanding of the life cycle for vaccines and drug therapies, coupled with his corporate experience, will help advance Sabin Foundation Europe's work to combat vaccine-preventable and neglected tropical diseases. We are honored to welcome Mr. Beery to the board of trustees."
