Stockholm hosts ESCAIDE 2013

Stockholm hosted the seventh European Scientific Conference on Applied Infectious Disease Epidemiology from Nov. 5 to 7 at the Stockholm Waterfront Conference Center.

The conference serves as a meeting point for experts with professional and scientific interest in infectious disease epidemiology, microbiology and other associated disciplines.

More than 550 participants attended the event in previous years. The conference features presentations on the identification of infectious diseases and public health action to prevent and control the spread of diseases. More than 250 sessions were available during the conference.

ESCAIDE 2013 opened with a keynote address titled "No time to lose; of infectious diseases, science, politics and institutions" from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Director Peter Piot.

A session was added to the final day of the conference on the latest events related to the respiratory syndrome coronavirus in the Middle East.

ESCAIDE is sponsored by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and organized by ECDC, European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training, EPIET Alumni Network and Training Programs in Epidemiology and Public Health Interventions Network in Europe.

The first ESCAIDE was held in 2007 in Stockholm, which is where the headquarters of ECDC is located.
