Emergent's EVP of corporate affairs appointed to board of MdBio

Emergent BioSolutions, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company, announced on Monday that Allen Shofe, the company's executive vice president of corporate affairs, will serve on the board of directors for the MdBio Foundation.

MdBio Foundation is a Maryland-based private charitable organization with the mission of supporting bioscience awareness education and workforce development in the state. MdBio Foundation is also an affiliate of the Tech Council of Maryland.

"I am honored to serve on the board of a foundation that is committed to training and investing in tomorrow's scientific talent which is one of four focus areas of Emergent's (Give Invest and Volunteer in Emergent communities) corporate social responsibility program," Shofe said. "For years Emergent has partnered with MdBio Foundation to host the Young Science Explorers program at our Gaithersburg laboratory facility providing middle school students a glimpse into biopharmaceutical product development and an opportunity to interact with employees and scientists about (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)-based careers. We look forward to again welcoming YSEP at our facility in July."

Emergent's GIVE CSR program is defined by the mission of building a safer and healthier world by advancing global health, protecting those who protect us, educating tomorrow's scientific leaders and improving the communities in which we work and live. The programs allows Emergent and its employees to contribute time, skills and resources to help charitable organizations through multiple philanthropic activities.

"Our GIVE program can have a rewarding and enduring effect on our communities and motivate and invigorate employee achievement," Shofe said. "Partnering with MdBio Foundation is one of the many ways we can work together to impact the local community."
