Researchers develop vaccine scheduler for parents and healthcare providers
The scheduling tool uses a child's vaccination history and birth date to create a catch-up vaccination schedule for children that have fallen behind on their immunizations. The tool simplifies the complex rules for creating the schedule to provide support for healthcare providers and parents.
The scheduler creates a vaccination schedule for children six years and younger for hepatitis A, varicella, measles, mumps and rubella, polio, pneumococcus, diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis, rotavirus, hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae type b.
Parents and healthcare providers can use the tool to enter, update or modify a child's vaccination history, load a previously saved vaccination history, print a vaccination schedule, create an accelerated vaccination schedule and save a child's vaccination history directly to a computer for future use.
The scheduler uses the immunization schedule based on the 2012 Childhood and Adolescent Immunization schedule recommended by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
The tool was developed as part of a collaboration between the CDC, the Georgia Tech Research Institute Information and Communications Lab and the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech.
