Katharine McPhee joins anti-malaria campaign
"Dream Big," which runs from now until mid-February, gives donors of $10 or more a chance to win a trip to Africa accompanied by the former American Idol contestant.
"I share a dream with Malaria No More, and that's to see a day when no one is dying from malaria," McPhee said. "Until that day comes, I'm committed to fighting the disease and look forward to helping kids in Africa have a greater chance at achieving their dreams.
McPhee and the "Dream Big" winner are to travel to schools in Burkina Faso and Ghana built with help from the organization.
"Every action - from a fan making a $10 donation to a child receiving a life-saving dose of malaria medicine - makes a difference," David Bowen, the CEO of Malaria No More, said. "We're thrilled to have Katharine and her fans joining the winnable fight against malaria."
People interested in entering the competition should text the word "DREAM" to 85944. The donation will automatically be charged to the contestant's mobile phone bill. Ten finalists will be chosen and asked to write a 300 word post and make a 30 second video explaining why they should be chosen for the trip. The campaign will also appear on the social networking site Facebook.
