Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Burwell recently announced that Rachel Kaprielian will be HHS’s new Region I director for Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

“Rachel’s work in state and local policy will surely be an asset to our Region I office," Burwel said. "We look forward to Rachel joining her fellow regional directors as they continue their work delivering impact in communities around the country.”

Kaprielian’s new duties will require her to be a key representative for HHS’s health and social service concerns with tribal, local, state and federal officials.

The majority of Kaprielian’s career has been as a senior level public official in Massachusetts. Her most recent position was as a member of Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick's cabinet, where she served as the secretary of the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. Her duties included streamlining a public, online platform that served unemployment insurance claimants.

Kaprielian’s previous positions include being a member of the Massachusetts legislature, registrar of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, and other leadership roles in health policy and other fields.
