New web tool serves as vaccine locator

A free, online tool was recently developed to aid adults in finding needed vaccines in their area.

The HealthMap Vaccine Finder, previously called the HealthMap Flu Vaccine Finder, helps locate nearby vaccine providers, such as pharmacies and health clinics, by ZIP code. The tool builds on the success of the flu vaccine finder by adding nine additional vaccines to search for. The finder lists more than 50,000 locations and has aided over 125,000 users.

The finder includes locations for providers that administer vaccines, including hepatitis A, hepatitis B, HPV; MMR, varicella, Td, Tdap, meningococcal, pneumococcal and zoster.

Vaccines can also be selected according to their means of administration.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently offered its support for the initiative as part of its effort to raise vaccination rates, which are currently below Healthy People 2020 targets. AIDS.org recommends that all individuals speak to their healthcare providers about which vaccines are necessary based on age, health status and lifestyle.

The HealthMap Vaccine Finder also offers a series of Vaccine Finder widgets that can be added to blogs or websites.
